Working with the phases of the moon is a great way to add another layer of energy to your magic, and there is no better place to start than with the full moon.
A complete lunar cycle consists of 27 days in which the moon passes through 8 phases;
🌒 Waxing Crescent
🌓 First Quarter
🌔 Waxing Gibbous
🌖 Waning Gibbous
🌗 Third Quarter
🌘 Waning Crescent
All of the phases have their own strengths, but the full moon is considered to be a time of peak power and can add a potent boost to spells and rituals. It is perfect for manifestation, divination, protection, passion, healing, strength, and success. It’s also a great time to tap into your dreams and identify messages or signs.
The full moon is a time of celebration for many belief systems all over the world, but as well as being a cause for merriment it is also a poignant time to release and let go of bad or destructive habits, thought patterns, intentions, or anything that no longer serves you or aligns with your true purpose.
Many people feel the effects of the full moon up to two days before and after its peak, so don’t worry if you happen to miss the full moon, simply work your magick before or after it instead.
It is worth noting that the lunar phases affect everyone differently, and once you start attuning yourself to its energies you may start to notice that a pattern in your own energy emerges. Some feel drained and exhausted around the full moon while others feel powerful and energized. Plan your rituals, spells, and activities around how you feel at those particular times, and don’t be influenced by what others are up to. If you want to skip out on full moon workings then you absolutely should! But even if you are feeling like a zombie, the chances are that you might find something on this list that you feel up to doing…
It doesn’t matter whether you have 5 minutes or 50 minutes, meditating on a full moon is a great way to tap into spiritual energies and your higher self. Charge your rocks
Whether you prefer shiny crystals or regular old river rocks, charging them under the full moon helps to give them a new lease of energy which enhance their magickal properties. Put them in the light of the full moon, this can be outside or on a windowsill, and remove them before the sun comes up. If you are going to put them outside ensure that they are compatible with water in case it rains or the morning dew gets them wet.
Make moon water
For the ultimate in low energy magick, simply fill a clean bottle or jar with water, put the lid on so that nothing can get into it, then place it where it will soak up the light of the full moon. Moon water is a great addition to spell work and can be used in a number of ways. You can put in ritual baths, in herbal teas and soups, drink on its own before ritual or spell work, water your plants with it, clean your altar with it or even use it for scrying.
Take a ritual bath
If you’re planning on doing some manifestation spell work for the full moon, taking a ritual bath beforehand will help to enhance your results. As the full moon is the perfect time for releasing and shedding bad habits and thought patterns, treat the bath as a way of removing these to prepare you for your manifestation work. Imagine the things that you want to release seeping into the water around you, then pull the plug and stay in the bath as it all drains away from you, leaving you feeling fresh and renewed.
